Harvest - Cariboo Agriculture Producers Association
(Quesnel Farmer's Market)

About the Quesnel Farmers' Market:

The Quesnel "Old Time" Farmers' Market began in 1988 with a handful of vendors and a warm reception from local shoppers. "Harvest" was established in 1989 as the organizing body for the market and became a non-profit society in 1994. Now, Harvest is directed by a dedicated group of volunteers who are committed to supporting and promoting local agriculture.

Today, the Quesnel Farmers' Market hosts an average of about 25-30 vendors each week, with some late spring markets peaking at 35 vendors. The producer/baking/craft mix varies, but generally includes a minimum of 10-15 agricultural producers, 4 - 6 bakers and food booths, with the balance being local crafts. It is generally agreed that several hundred customers visit each Saturday by mid-summer. The market operates outdoors from early May until early October; three pre-Christmas indoor markets are also held and are well attended at the Quesnel Recreation Center.

About The Quesnel Shiraoi Twinning Society:

The Quesnel Shiraoi Twinning Society was founded in 1981 to enhance awareness and development between Quesnel and the sister city of Shiraoi on Hokkaido, Japan. Cross-cultural exchanges occur with a Shiraoi delegation visiting Quesnel on even years and a Quesnel delegation visiting Shiraoi on odd years. The delegation from Quesnel is open to all citizens. Students are encouraged and sponsored financially by the society to become youth delegates.

Shiraoi House, located in LeBourdais Park, was opened in 2004 to honour the twinning relationship between the City of Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada and its sister city, Shiraoi Town, Hokkaido, Japan.

Day to day operation of Shiraoi House is managed by the Quesnel-Shiraoi Twinning Society. Shiraoi House is open to the public at certain times and also available for private rentals. The Twinning Society operates a gift shop with many Japanese items for sale. The gift shop is open during regular open house times.

Five elementary schools: Barlow Creek, Bouchie Lake, Carson, Lakeview and Richbar; and three high schools: Maple Drive, Correlieu and Quesnel Secondary are twinned with schools in Shiraoi.

Shiraoi youth are adult delegations have brought Japanese culture to Quesnel through dance presentations, courses in Japanese writing, Ikebana and the Tea Ceremony.

Q City Singers - Quesnel's Community Choir
Picture

About Q City Singers:

We are the Q City Singers – Quesnel’s Community Choir.  Our story began in the summer of 2015 when a small group of friends, fueled by a desire to sing, got together and started looking for enough like-minded folks in town to establish a small choir.  The response was overwhelming, and the Q City Singers was born.  Since the choir's first practice that September, we have enjoyed learning and growing together, both in number and in skill...and we are looking forward to bringing choral music to the community for years to come!

The Q City Singers is a member-funded society, and up to 60 singers join the choir each year.  We feature a diverse group of mixed voices and a broad range of skill and experience. United by our love of singing, we strive to learn and grow musically in a fun and inclusive environment.  Sure to appeal to singers young and old, joining the choir is a great way to get involved in the community!

Quesnel Festival of Performing Arts Society

QFPA is a not-for-profit society, run by a group of volunteers who are devoted to sparking and encouraging a life-long passion for the performing arts. Festival provides an ideal opportunity not only for our aspiring performers, but also for anyone who is a performing arts fan, to take in some truly amazing talent right here in Quesnel.

Our goal continues to be to provide a forum for students of the performing arts–Vocal and Choral, Piano, Dance, and Speech and Dramatic Arts — to perform in public before an experienced, skilled adjudicator, in order to receive training and opportunities above and beyond what they receive in their regular studies, by way of adjudications and constructive critiques.

Every spring, over the six to eight week period of the Festival, participants aged 5 and up receive the opportunity to gain greater knowledge and appreciation for the performing arts. Each discipline presents trophies, cash awards, scholarships, and medals to outstanding participants. Top performing participants within the age range of 10-28 years may further be chosen by their adjudicators to attend the annual Provincial Festival of the Performing Arts.

About Quesnel Live Arts Society:

We are a group of volunteers who love live arts performances. Even though we have our favourite types of music and performers, we seek out a wide variety of high quality affordable entertainment for the Quesnel community.

We have a dedicated audience of season ticket subscribers, some of whom have purchased season tickets since our early days. We are determined to keep the ticket prices affordable.

We strongly believe that young people with an interest in the arts should be encouraged to attend live performances, and regularly give them special rates to attend specific shows.

The Quesnel Quilters Guild is a diverse group of women - all ages and all abilities - who meet regularly to share their love of fabric and quilting, and to practice the art of quilting.

At present, there are 45 members, some with years of involvement and some new to quilting and the Guild.

Activities:
Workshops to make Community Comfort quilts are held annually with some members contributing throughout the year. We add to our supplies annually by purchasing backing & batting (funds through Quilt Show and grants) and using materials that have been donated through members and our community.
